Maintenance Tips
- Vacuum or sweep floor regularly, since excessive sand, dirt, or grit can act like sandpaper to scratch or dull your floor's finish.
- A constant humidity level is best for your floor. 40% to 50% humidity is generally considered to be the best indoor moisture level for your flooring. Consider using a humidifier and/or a dehumidifier to keep your house at a constant humidity level in order to reduce swelling or gapping of the floor.
- Use protective pads for the bottom feet of your furniture.
- Place mats or area rugs on areas of high traffic. Make sure that the rugs are able to breathe and that they don't have a rubber backing that could scuff the floor. Check underneath them from time to time to make sure that they are not affecting your floor's color or finish.
- Don't walk on your hardwood floors in high heels, track spikes, or mountain climbing boots.
- Remove spills quickly so that they don't sit on the floor for long periods of time. A cloth or mop that has been lightly dampened with water usually works best.
- Don't use household cleaners, pine oil soap, or any other types of chemical cleaners on your floor. These can dull or even seriously damage them. Use only a cleaner that has been specially designed for your wood flooring.
